City as playground written by Randy Mason. Inspired by our partner David Hillis at Leadership Foundations. Thanks for listening and sharing.
Lyrics:
Picture our city as a playground
instead of a battleground
where children laugh and play
and make a joyful sound
where the elders are like welders
when they come around
to tell us tales one hundred stories tall
from the ground
what if when developers ground break
they found faith?
in a city where sirens are not the signature soundscape
doesn’t it sound great?
sweeter than pound cake
astounding taste
abounding grace
a city without hate
where courage is concrete
and we complete more than compete
working together to upkeep
the pace of the rhythm is upbeat
seeing the city industries
as branches belong to one tree
instead of a race to the country
or staying in places that’s comfy
making a plate for the hungry
looking out for the young
looking out for the old
finding shade from the sun
and shelter from the cold
where creative engagement is the arrangement
we embrace fully
especially in conflict
unafraid of the bully
slide, swing
study the park for a semester
see how vision is casted
without a projector
how do we exit and enter?
look at the seating and sectors
observe the meaning of gestures
the art and the architecture
heart investors
people of good faith and good will
all in the field
forming a guild
called to capacity build
through joint initiatives
join the mission where
joy is imminent
if you’re pointing fingers
then the point, you’re missing it
and coin is frivolous
to love a city
you’ve got to do a bit more
than live in it
a city is a song
with strong significance
an orchestra with a score of instruments
secret chords play for the adventurous
tenant whose tenet is treasure the tenement
